Tenant Advice

Register Your Details

The first step in renting a property is to contact Catriona at McGovern Estates and register your details and talk to you about what you want. To be prepared it is a good idea to:

  • Get to know the area
  • Fix your budget
  • Decide how long you want to rent for
  • Know when you want to move in

View Properties:

We will let you know all the properties that match your requirements and visit the properties you like. Be prepared to move quickly as properties are let quickly in today’s market. If you like something, you may want to make an offer that day.

Be Prepared:

Make sure you have all your paperwork ready. You will need references to assure the landlord that you are able to pay the rent and look after the property well. A bank reference, an employer reference and a previous landlord reference if available is usually sufficient.

Make an Offer:

When you find a property you like, you need to make an offer without delay. Most Landlords will require an initial payment of a security deposit, usually equivalent to one months rent. They will also want to check your references so you need to have them ready. Having contact numbers for your referees to make facilitate checking the references is a good idea.

Offer Accepted:

Upon acceptance of your offer, the next step will be reviewing and signing the letting agreement. You will also need to pay the deposit, finalise moving in dates etc. and set up a standing order for future rent payments. Our Letting Team will be on hand to guide you through all the stages.

Utilities

The tenant is usually responsible for taking over the utilities upon moving into the property. Again, our letting agents will advise you on the steps involved.
